GALLOWAY, N.J. - The Arcadia University field hockey team dropped their opener versus Stockton University, 3-2. The Knights took an early advantage with a first quarter tally, but surrendered three second half goals.
Carly Flickinger and
Adera Ahern accounted for both of the Knights' tallies. Flickinger opened the scoring with a quick strike at the 2:13 mark, while Ahern scored a fourth quarter equalizer.
A sophomore, Flickinger provided this season's inaugural goal on the first shot attempt of the game. The Knights created traffic in front of the goalie as Flickinger drove a loose ball to the back of the net. She beat the goalie to the far side and fell to the ground as she was hit on her follow through.Â
Arcadia took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but couldn't withstand the Ospreys' attack. Madison Dancisin answered with a quick equalizer in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Kassidy Wentzell then converted on a blast from the top of the circle to give Stockton its first lead, 2-1.
Ahern kept the Knights fight alive with a fourth quarter score. The senior connected with
Lauren Dougherty on a tip-in for the game-tying goal. However, Stockton would answer in the final minutes with a Gianna Morganti game-winning goal off a rebound in front of the net.Â
The Ospreys outshot Arcadia 20-5, while holding a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners. Stockton's second half was propelled by an 11-3 shots advantage.
The Knights look to bounce back on Sunday with their home opener versus Swarthmore College. The game will start at 1:00 PM on Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.Â
