SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team fell to Swarthmore College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Harun Abdullahi and
Keegan Bower provided the scoring for the Knights with assists from
Shade Foreman and
Duncan O'Connor. Abdullahi connected on the first Arcadia goal with 14-seconds remaining in the first half, while Bower found the back of the net with less than 10-seconds left in the second.
Foreman fed a beautiful cross to Abdullahi, who played the ball on a header as he cut towards the right side of the goal. The junior placed a header perfectly to beat the keeper to his far side. The play was set up by excellent midfield ball movement after the Knights fought off Swarthmore's attack.
Bower connected on a through ball from O'Connor with seconds remaining in the contest. The Knights stayed aggressive as Bower elevated a shot over the keeper on the near-side post. O'Connor controlled the ball following a throw-in and delivered a well-timed strike to Bower.
Joe Barile accounted for the opening two goals with tallies in the 12
th and 33
rd minute, respectively. Trevor Homstad netted the final Garnet goal in the 56
th minute.
Jake Varrato started in goal for the Knights and tallied a game-high five saves. Arcadia was outshot 13-7, but had a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
