HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's soccer team shutout Haverford College, 3-0, in the opening matchup of the Haverford Kick Off Classic, Saturday afternoon.
The Knights upperclassmen led the way with goals from
Emily Readinger,
Mackenzie Hoffman and
Amanda McHugh. Readinger opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute, while Hoffman and McHugh scored in the 55th and 80th minutes, respectively.
Kayla Murphy and
Jules Oswald both added assists for Arcadia.
Readinger had the only unassisted goal of the afternoon. The junior netted the squad's first tally of the season with a strike from 20-yards out to give the Knights an early advantage.
Early in the second half, Hoffman expanded Arcadia's lead with an assist from Murphy. A junior, Murphy took a free kick from 30-yards out and connected with a Hoffman header to beat the keeper. Later in the half, the Knights added on another insurance goal on a McHugh header from Oswald.
Brianna Williams earned the start for the Knights, recording four saves in 82 minutes of action. Freshman
Julia Mendez made her collegiate debut with eight minutes of relief. The first-year keeper recorded one save and did not allow a goal. Arcadia outshot Haverford 15-9 and held a 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.
The Knights play the winner of Scranton/Montclair in the final round of the Haverford Kickoff Classic, Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM.
