LANCASTER, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team split versus Mary Washington and Franklin & Marshall, who both appeared in last season's NCAA Tournament, Saturday afternoon. The Knights defeated Mary Washington, 3-1, in the opener, but fell to the Diplomats in a thrilling five-set match.
Shannon Ryan recorded a team high 15 kills in the squad's opener, while
Lauren Enfield also had double-digit tallies with 10.Â
Julia Paliwodzinski had another strong offensive performance with 38 assists and one kill. The team totaled seven service aces with Enfield,
Maddie Sehrt andÂ
Emily Eng each recording two.Â
Eng led the Knights defensively with a team-best 14 digs. Sehrt also had a stellar performance with a season-high seven blocks.Â
In game two, Arcadia grabbed early momentum with victories in the opening two sets (25-19, 25-16). However, Franklin & Marshall bounced back and edged out Arcadia in the final three sets (25-19, 25-19, 15-8).
Allison Elechko led the squad's attack with a team-high 12 kills, while Enfield, Sehrt and Ryan joined her in double-digits. Enfield finished second on the team with 11 kills, while Sehrt and Ryan each tallied 10, respectively. Sehrt ended the afternoon with a .364 hitting percentage on 22 total attacks. Freshman
Michelle Frank also had an efficient offensive performance, tallying a team-high .417 hitting percentage with five kills and 12 total attacks.
Paliwodzinski continued to pace the team's attack with 40 assists. She also had 13 digs and two service aces. As a team, the Knights totaled nine service aces with Enfield leading the charge.Â
On the defensive side,
Michelle Frank led the way with five blocks. Elechko was second on the team with three blocks, while Ryan and Enfield both tallied one. Eng collected a team-best 23 digs and
Mackenzie Hale had 14, which ranked second on the team.
Arcadia returns to action versus NYU on Tuesday for the team's home opener. The squad will host Bryn Athyn the following day.
