GLENSIDE, Pa. - The No. 13 Arcadia University women's soccer team posted its seventh-straight victory Tuesday night at Jean Lenox West Field on the strength of two first-half scores - one each from
Bridget Sway and
Megan Mannato - to down visiting Drew, 2-0. The Knights displayed a dominant offensive attack and stout back line play from the onset of the match, outshooting the Rangers by a 20-5 margin to post their eighth shutout in the season's first ten games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Drew had the first quality opportunity on net on the night with an eighth-minute strike off the foot of Gabby Gilgori from outside the 18, but Arcadia keeper
Brianna Williams timed her leap perfectly to deflect it off the crossbar to keep the Rangers off the board and force a corner.
-After dominating possession in the Drew third in the moments that followed,
Bridget Sway settled the ball just inside the left edge of the box and fired a left-footed shot for the far post that beat the outstretched keeper for the game's first goal - Sway's second goal of the season.
-The Knights were in control for the remainder of the opening half, as Drew was unable to register another shot on goal since its eighth-minute chance. Arcadia capitalized in the final moments of the first 45 when Riley Ratcliffle gained possession just inside midfield and found
Megan Mannato down the right side, who then beat the final Drew defender and buried it past the keeper to make it a two-goal advantage.
-The Knights brought out an identical, steady offensive attack in the opening five minutes of the second half as
Amanda McHugh and
Victoria Casey both logged shots on goal but were met by saves.
-The Rangers managed only three shots in the second half alone as Arcadia dominated possession in the final 45 to pick up its seventh-straight victory - and fourth-consecutive shutout - 2-0.
