Hoboken, N.J. - The No. 13 Arcadia University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought battle against Stevens, 1-0, in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon. The Ducks, who fell just outside the top-25 in both national polls, edged out the Knights with a goal from Fiona Matthews in the 108th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the second overtime nearing its conclusion, Matthews provided the game-winning goal for the Ducks. Ally Wanzor carried the ball to the right side of the box and played a pass off Gabby Saade, who deflected it to Matthews. The sophomore made a fake to the far post, but motioned back to the near post to sneak the ball past
Brianna Williams.
- Williams made two saves for the Knights, but allowed her first goal since Sept. 1 versus Montclair State in the sixth minute. The junior keeper had gone seven consecutive appearances without surrendering a goal.
- The Knights held a 2-0 shots advantage in the first overtime, but couldn't come away with the golden goal.
Megan Mannato had a shot saved in the 93rd minute, while
Jules Oswald missed wide right in the 99th minute.
-
Kayla Murphy helped keep the game scoreless in the 32nd minute. Following a blocked shot, Murphy made a heads-up play to prevent the Ducks from capitalizing on their second chance opportunity.
