O'Connor Scores Twice, Knights Offense Tallies Season-High versus King's

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's soccer team came away with a much-needed 3-1 victory over King's College, Saturday afternoon. Duncan O'Connor helped lead the Knights with two goals, while Alexander Kuchnicki provided Arcadia's opening tally.

Despite falling short of the shutout, Jake Varrato had an outstanding afternoon in goal. The sophomore keeper saw 18 shots and made five saves, which included several key stops.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kuchnicki put the Knights on the board early with the team's opening tally in the 14th minute. After receiving a through ball outside the box, Kuchnicki beat a couple defenders and elevated a left-footed strike above the leaping keeper to put the Knights ahead 1-0.
 
  • O'Connor expanded Arcadia's lead with a goal in the 27th minute. Matt Berndlmaier created the scoring opportunity with a well-placed throw-in from the right side. The defensive back found the head of O'Connor, who elevated the shot above the keeper from five-yards out.
 
  • King's had their chances with 9-3 shots lead and a 6-1 corner advantage in the first half. However, Varrato made several key stops to preserve the Knights lead.
 
  • The Monarchs controlled the pace of play early in the second half. Matthew Hesse put King's College on the board with a free kick from 30-yards out to pull within one score. 
 
  • O'Connor added on another insurance goal in the 74th minute to seal the Knights victory. The junior captain played a free kick low from just outside the right side of the box. Zac Runkle did an excellent job of creating traffic in front of the net as he hurdled the shot, which impacted the keeper's vision.

  • King's outshot the Knights 18-5 and had a 12-2 corner advantage, however, the Knights were able to execute on their limited opportunities.
