Bower Delivers Game-Winner in 87th Minute to Defeat Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's soccer team recorded their third consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory over Misericordia University, Saturday afternoon. Keegan Bower scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute with a header from 10-yards out, following a free kick from Bryan Reyes. The senior defender connected with his forward from 45-yards out and Bower played the ball perfectly to beat the goalkeeper to his right side.

Jake Varrato had another sensational performance with three saves to earn his third consecutive shut out. The sophomore, along with the Knights defense, has held opponents scoreless for just over 304 consecutive minutes of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights controlled possession for the majority of the contest, but were finally able to break through in the 87th minute. After Bower was taken down around midfield, the Knights earned a free kick from 45-yards out. Reyes, who had a stellar game defensively, placed a perfect strike into traffic, which found the head of Bower for the score.

- Matt Berndlmaier stood out with a couple clutch defensive plays in the box. In the first half, the junior deflected away a Misericordia header, which was directed towards the net, following a throw-in. Later in the game, Berndlmaier headed away a dangerous ball, which was lobbed over Varrato's head and carrying to the far post.

-Devin Rosser had the team's best scoring chance of the first half in the 18th minute. The senior found open space in the Cougars defense and ripped a ball to the far post, but was denied on a diving stop.
