READING, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team was deadlocked with host Alvernia at 72 in the final ten seconds of Wednesday night's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth matchup, and
Jacob Walsh came up with a pair of game-changing blocks on potential game-winning shots, the second of which was taken coast-to-coast by
Da'Kquan Davis who made the winning layup on the other end to lift the Knights to a 74-72 victory.
Steven Pendleton fell one rebound shy of a double-double in the effort, leading all scorers with 19 points and nine boards, while Davis and
Jalen Watkins followed with 18 and 10, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Alvernia staked itself to a seven-point lead at the 11:37 mark of the first half before an ensuing 7-0 run powered by a pair of
Jalen Watkins field goals knotted the two sides at 22-all. The Knights and Golden Wolves stayed within a possession of each other for the final ten minutes of the half - with Arcadia trailing for a majority of the stretch - before a
Justin Money three tied the game at 37 and a Pendleton layup gave Arcadia a two-point advantage with 37 seconds remaining. An Alvernia bucket with under ten seconds left in the half sent the two sided to the locker room even at 39 apiece.
-After giving up the opening field goal of the second half, the Knights ripped off a 9-2 run in the first five minutes to take a five-point lead behind a Davis three and a pair of Pendleton buckets. Arcadia held a game-high, six-point lead with 5:48 remaining in regulation, but a quick 8-0 Golden Wolf run allowed the hosts to tie, and the and then take the lead at 67-65, with just over three minutes left.
-Tied at least 72-all with 31 seconds remaining, Alvernia held possession coming out of an Arcadia timeout and ran the clock down as far as the shot clock would allow. The Golden Wolves got off a pair of potential game-winning shots, but both were met by Walsh blocks - the second of which was rebounded by Davis and taken the distance before laying in the game-winner with two seconds remaining to send the Knight to the 74-72 victory.
