FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Arcadia University baseball team wrapped up its opening weekend road trip with a 2-1 record after defeating DeSales University, 6-0, at the Diamond Invitational.
Nick Fossile tossed four strong innings to earn the victory, while five Knights combined for the shutout.
Alex Madera had his second-straight multi-hit game with three hits, one RBI, one run and three stolen bases.
Zak Thomas also had a productive day at the plate with two RBI, while
Justin Massielo added his first career RBI, extended his hit streak to three games and worked a couple walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Zachary Sekelick led off the game with a double to left field, then advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt from Madera. Massielo then singled down the left field line to plate the game's opening run, 1-0.
- Fossile tossed a 1-2-3 opening frame, then struck out the side swinging in the second inning.

Matt Ernst was hit by a pitch to open the third inning, and later advanced to third base on an infield single from Madera. The Knights then stole a run with a double steal as Madera swiped second and Ernst trotted home to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Knights added three runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead by five runs. Ernst reached on a throwing error to open the frame and advanced into scoring position with his second stolen base of the afternoon. After Ernst advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt, Madera brought the runner home with a single. Thomas then plated two more runners with a double down the left field line.
- Arcadia added on another insurance tally in the seventh inning, when a Thomas squeeze play allowed Madera to score from third base, 6-0.
