SCRANTON, Pa. - Jeremy Sabathne and
Mitch Blake led the Arcadia University baseball team to a combined shutout victory, 1-0, at Scranton University on Sunday afternoon. Sabathne tossed 7.1 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, while Blake provided five huge outs for his second save of the season.
Noah Cerrud-Osmer plated the Knights' only run, when he took home on a
Zachary Sekelick rundown between first and second base in the third inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cerrud-Osmer led off the third inning with a walk, and advanced into scoring position with a stolen base.
Matt Ernst worked another walk in the following at bat, and Cerrud-Osmer advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Sekelick then drew a pick-off attempt to first base and got caught in a rundown between first and second, which allowed Cerrud-Osmer to swipe home, 1-0.
- Sabathne navigated out of a jam in the fourth inning to keep the Royals scoreless. After allowing the first two runners to reach base, Scranton had two players advance to scoring position on a one-out wild pitch. The Royals then hit a ground ball to Ernst, who made a heads-up play and fired the ball home for the out. Sabathne then struck out the last batter swinging to end the threat.
- In the fifth inning, Sabathne struck out the first two batters swinging and induced a ground ball out to retire the Royals in order. The senior then escaped the sixth inning after allowing a two-out double.
- The Royals threatened with consecutive one-out singles in the eighth inning. The Knights then called on Blake, who induced back-to-back ground ball outs to preserve Arcadia's one-run lead. The senior then retired the side in the ninth to earn the five-out save.
