SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team battled back from an early three-goal deficit to take the lead in the final minutes of Friday night's non-conference matchup at Swarthmore, but the Garnet rallied for the tying and game-winning goals in the final two minutes to come away with an 11-10 victory over the Knights.
Julia Imbert and
Amanda Diachynsky paced the Knight offense with hat tricks, as Imbert tallied a game-high six points in the effort.
Caroline Toner led Arcadia with five draw controls and a caused turnover, while goalie
Veandra Selby logged a season-high 13 saves in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights fell into an early three-goal deficit in the first ten-plus minutes of the game, as the Garnet scored three-straight times after
Jess Kaye's goal in the first two minutes of play. Imbert and Kaye both scored twice in the opening half, but Swarthmore took a 7-4 lead into halftime.
-Diachynsky and
Madison Morabito netted the first two goals of the second half to bring the Knights within one and, following the Garnet's first goal of the half, the Knights struck for three-straight scores to regain the lead, 9-8, with 7:54 remaining in regulation. Diachynsky provided a pair of scores - including a man-up tally to tie the game at eight-all, before Imbert netted the go-ahead score on an unassisted tally with just under eight minutes left.
-The Garnet knotted the contest at nine a little over three minutes later, but
Hannah McAllister provided the answer 40 secondsl later to put the Knights back out ahead, 10-9.
-Swarthmore came right back to tie the game at ten-all with 1:43 remaining before Eleanor Miller netted the game-winning goal with six seconds left on the clock to vault the Garnet to the 11-10 victory.
