WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball program clinched a spot in next week's MAC Freedom Championship Tournament with a three-set victory at Wilkes Tuesday night behind a match-high 12 kill each from
Michelle Frank and
Nicole Dallara. Frank also tied for the lead in aces with
Grace Kraft who both posted four in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-After arriving at a 5-5 tie early in the first set, the Knights took off on an 8-1 scoring run to take control of the opener. Kraft had three-consecutive service aces over that stretch before the Knights took seven of the set's final nine points to roll to a 25-15 victory.
-Wilkes jumped out to a three point lead in the second set but Arcadia stormed back with a 12-1 run to flip the score and take an eight-point lead. Frank logged three services aces while Estefania Martinez-Sola put up two of her own during the run. The Knights went on to win the final six points of the set while holding Wilkes to just ten points as two kills each from Dallara and
Danielle Doyle down the stretch sealed the second set victory.
-The Colonels led for a majority of the third set in an attempt to keep the match alive - taking a seven-point lead at 20-13 in the late stages - but the Knights rallied to get within two behind kills from Frank, Martinez-Sola and
Haylee Harper. Wilkes reached set point at 24-21, but Arcadia responded to win six of the last seven points to fend off the comeback attempt and take the match-clinching set, 27-25.
