DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's soccer program locked up the number one seed in next week's MAC Freedom Championship Tournament Saturday night with a 1-0 victory at Delaware Valley in the regular season finale.
Matt Berndlmaier provided the game-winner in the 52nd minute on a long-range free kick that eluded the back line of the Aggie defense and found the back of the net, while the Knights limited Delaware Valley to just three total shots in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights dominated the opening half with a 10-1 shot advantage, but were unable to convert on any of their chances in the first 45 minutes.
Duncan O'Connor had a pair of chances on goal but both were met with saves as the two sides went into halftime scoreless.
-Arcadia came out firing offensively to open the second half as Berndlmaier and O'Connor both had looks on net in the first five minutes. Berndlmaier was awarded a free kick in the 52nd minute and made the most of the opportunity, sending a left-footed strike into the box that got over top of the Aggie defense and made its way into the back of the net for what would be the eventual game-winner.
-The Knights held Delaware Valley without a shot for the final 20-plus minutes to post another clean sheet in the 1-0 victory.
