GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team dropped a tough battle versus Stevens as they fell to the Ducks, 57-49, in its Middle Atlantic Conference opener on Wednesday night.
Scarlett Glasser-Nehls led the way with 14 points, while
Holly Daveski and
Kylie Meredith both had eight points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights took a three-point lead after Glasser-Nehls added a steal and a fastbreak layup midway through the opening quarter, 8-5. The stanza saw four ties and four lead changes as both teams battled back-and-forth early in the contest. The Ducks went into the first intermission with a three-point advantage, 15-12.
- Stevens controlled the second quarter while outscoring the Knights 15-5. The visitors opened the quarter on a 9-0 run, before
Julia Makowski added the team's first bucket of the quarter with 5:40 remaining. The Ducks expanded its lead to a quarter-high 13 points as they entered halftime with a 30-17 advantage.
- After the Ducks expanded its lead to 16 points with 6:16 left in the third quarter, the Knights began to capture momentum with an 8-0 run. Meredith and Glasser-Nehls combined for all eight of Arcadia's points over the two-minute stretch as the duo pulled their team within single digits of the Ducks, 35-27. However, Stevens ended the stanza on a 10-4 run to build its lead to 14 points after three quarters.
- Stevens put themselves in a comfortable position with a 6-1 run to open the final frame as they took a game-high 19-point lead. However, Arcadia showed fight as they answered with six-straight points to trim its deficit to 13 points with 4:18 left. Following a Stevens bucket to stop an Arcadia 6-0 run, the Knights answered with a 7-0 rally as they pulled within single digits, 53-45, with 45-seconds remaining.
