Weaver’s Big Night Leads Women’s Basketball to First Conference Victory

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team picked up its first conference victory over Delaware Valley University, 67-63, on Wednesday night.

Mara Weaver led the way for the Knights with a season-high 25 points and six three-pointers. The first-year set individual team-bests for single-game points and three-pointers this season.

Julia Makowski joined Weaver in double-figures with 18 points. The senior also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Kylie Meredith led the Knights bench with nine points in 14-minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies jumped out to a 9-4 lead after gaining separation with a three-pointer. Weaver then drained a contested three to pull the Knights back within two points. - Early in the second quarter, Weaver sparked a 6-0 Arcadia run with a three-pointer from the wing. Meredith then finished strong with a left-handed layup as she took contact from an Aggies defender. The first-year went on to score seven unanswered points as she gave the Knights their first lead of the contest. Olivia Wyckoff put the Knights up four points with a rebound and putback, then Weaver sank her third three of the half to give her squad an eight-point lead at halftime, 32-24.

- After Delaware Valley tightened its deficit in the opening minutes of the third, Weaver responded with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to put the Knights ahead by eight points, 42-34. The Knights ended the third quarter with a five-point advantage.

- Weaver drained an and-one three-pointer for her sixth three of the night to put the Knights ahead by 14 points, 61-47. The Aggies pulled within three points following a 13-2 run, but the Knights were able to hold on for the tight victory.
