Women's Lacrosse Falls in Final Minute to Wilkes, 8-7

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's lacrosse program was handed its second defeat in as many games in the final minute Wednesday night, as visiting Wilkes netted the game-winning goal in with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to come away with the MAC Freedom victory, 8-7. Skylar Acker and Alex Arena both netted a pair of goals to lead the Knight offense and Arena added an assist to finish the night with a team-high three points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wilkes started the scoring in the opening minute by converting on a free position goal to take an early advantage, but Arena and Acker followed with consecutive goals to put the Knights out in front for the first time just over ten minutes into the game. The two defenses were tough on the attacking units for a majority of the half until Giovanna Raspanti found the back of the net on a free position opportunity for the Knights' third-straight score. The Colonels answered just before time expired on the game clock, sending Arcadia to the half with a one-goal lead.

-The Colonels struck first in the second half to draw even with the Knights at three, but after Arena won the ensuing draw control, Michaela Ferlow ripped a shot past the goalie from the right side of the cage less than a minute later to put Arcadia back out in front. After a Hannah McAllister score gave the Knights a two-goal cushion, Wilkes answered back with two-straight tallies of their own to bring the game to a five-all tie.

-The two sides traded scores as Arena converted on a free position attempt before Acker's free position goal broke a 6-6 tie, giving the Knights a one-goal lead with seven minutes to play. Wilkes drew the two sides even once again with a free position tally and yet another free position goal with 18 seconds vaulted the Colonels to a one-goal lead with 18 seconds remaining. McAllister won the draw control that followed and went straight to goal with time winding down, but the Knights were denied in front of the crease as Wilkes escaped with the 8-7 victory.
