GLENSIDE, Pa. - Brian Albertsen netted the game-winning goal in overtime to cap the Arcadia University men's lacrosse program's come-from-behind victory over Misericordia Saturday afternoon in an offensive shootout, 16-15. The Knights faced a five-goal deficit at the half, but stormed back with nine-second half goals led by Albertsen's four to tie a career-high - while setting a new single-game high with seven points - while
Jackson Earley also netted a hat trick in the MAC Freedom victory.
Brady Manion and
Clo Muscara also netted a pair of goals each for the Knights in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Saturday's MAC Freedom matchup got off to a fast start as the two sides combined for ten goals in the opening quarter, but the Knights found themselves trailing by four after one despite scores from Albertsen,
Jack Rogers, and
Billy Burton.
James Barretta opened the scoring in the second quarter with his fifth of the season, but the Cougars answered back with three-straight scores of their own to take an 11-6 lead at the half.
-Arcadia continued to run its up-tempo attack to open the second half, resulting in three-consecutive scores to cut the deficit to two.
Jackson Earley began the run with a man-up tally ahead of scores from
Brady Manion and
Wesley Sporer, and following the Cougars' first goal of the half, the Knights again ripped off three-straight goals to tie the game at 12 heading into the final quarter. Earley added his second of the game before
Clo Muscara and
Justin Chinici tallies completed the comeback.
-Albertsen completed his hat trick and gave the Knights their first lead of the afternoon with 10:57 remaining in regulation, but the Cougars rallied for back-to-back scores to regain a one-goal advantage, 14-13. After nearly six minutes of scoreless action, Manion came through to draw the Knights even at 14 on his second goal of the game and Earley netted his third of the afternoon less than a minute later to push Arcadia ahead in the final seconds. However, the Cougars took advantage of an Arcadia penalty and converted on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at 15-all and send it to overtime.
-The Cougars won the opening faceoff in overtime but the Knight defense stood tall to prevent the visitors from getting a clean shot off on their possession, allowing Arcadia to clear and Albertsen to get a shot off from ten yards out, burying it in the back of the net to lift the Knights to the 16-15 victory.
