HOW IT HAPPENED
-Arcadia was quick to get on the board in Monday's game two to back starter
Hunter Curley, as
Trevor Mattson and
Alex Madera both singled before
Joseph Kumar worked a 12-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs.
Nick Opalkowski then provided the breakthrough knock with a two-run single to center to give the Knights an early advantage.
-Curley battled in his fourth start of the season to turn in a season-high seven innings before turning the game over to the bullpen in line for the win after allowing a lone run in the sixth. The sophomore right-hander scattered five hits while striking out four to put the Knights in position to take the series finale.
-The Cougars rallied for an unearned run in the eighth to tie the game at two in the late innings, but Arcadia bounced back to regain the lead in the home half. After
Justin Massielo and
Trey Obarowski singles put the go-ahead run in scoring position with two outs, the Cougars made a move to the bullpen to summon a lefty to face the left-handed hitting Madera. However, the Knights countered with
Connor Cheeseman to pinch-hit and the junior delivered in a big way, lining a two-strike offering to right to plate Massielo with the go-ahead run.
-
Owen Margolis entered for the save and made quick work of the Cougars, setting them down in order to preserve the 3-2 victory.
