Baseball Splits Opening Doubleheader of Snowbird Classic

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Arcadia University baseball team split its opening games of its spring break trip on Saturday, beating Heidelberg, 4-3 in seven innings and falling to Baldwin Wallace, 8-2.  

Justin Massielo had three hits and three RBI's over the course of the doubleheader. The junior infielder had an infield single that drove in a run in the win over Heidelberg, as well as a two run single in the loss to Baldwin Wallace. Hunter Curley hit his first career home run in the win over the Student Princes. 

Owen Margolis picked up his third victory on the season against Heidelberg as he pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits and walk. He forced a game ending double play in the top of the seventh that sealed the victory for the Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Tyler Costaro got the start for the Knights and pitched two-plus innings of scoreless ball before a two-hour rain delay finished his outing.  

  • Heidelberg scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning. Arcadia answered back in the bottom half of the third as Joseph Kumar had an RBI walk and Massielo's RBI infield single tied the game at two.  

  • Heidelberg hit a home run in the fourth inning, but Curley tied the game at three with a homer of his own in the bottom of the fourth.  

  • Kumar tallied his second RBI of the day as he pushed across the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Hunter Sibley got the start for the Knights and went 6 2/3 innings. 

  • Arcadia got on the board first as Massielo drove in two runs on a single through the left side.  

  • The Yellow Jackets plated two runs in the bottom half of the third to tie the game at two.  

  • After Sibley got the first two outs of the seventh inning, Baldwin Wallace started a rally with a bloop single, and went on to score six runs, opening up an 8-2 lead.  

  • Drew Pecorilli came in in relief and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. 

UP NEXT 

The Knights continue the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. as they take on No. 22 Denison on Sunday, March 13. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
