Tale of Two Games as Softball Sweeps Sunday Pair
CLERMONT, Fl. – It was a tale of two games, where pitching was the story of game one, a 2-1 win over William Paterson University, while the bats exploded in game two, an 11-3 victory over the University of Scranton as the Arcadia University softball team continued its spring break trip to Florida on Sunday.
The Knights improved to 6-3 with the pair of wins.
In game one against William Paterson,
Megan Klose led off the bottom of the second with a double to left-center and was pinch-run for by
Aleigha Parnell. After a groundout,
Effie Jamanis doubled, scoring Parnell with the first run of the game.
Arcadia doubled its lead in the bottom of the third when
Serena Goodridge grounded out bringing home
Madi Costigan, who led off the inning with a single.
The Pioneers cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth with a run, but the Knights held on for the victory.
Juliana Presto continued her impressive start to the season, notching her third consecutive game with double-digit strikeouts. Presto sat down 10 batters in the complete game effort, allowing one run with three walks.
Costigan, Klose, and Jamanis had the only hits for Arcadia in game one.
In game two, Scranton scored the first run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Knights exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning for eight runs.
Nathalia Diianni led off with a double, and was followed by a walk from
Megan Sooy, who was pinch-run for by Parnell. Goodridge singled to left to load the bases, and Klose walked to score Diianni and tie the game. Each runner moved up a base on a wild pitch that brought home Parnell to give Arcadia a 2-1 lead.
Morgan Tripodi walked to reload the bases and was followed by Jamanis, who knocked a two-run single to right making the score 4-1.
Taylor Sommer was hit by a pitch once again loading the bases, and after a strikeout, Costigan brought home Tripidi with a sacrifice fly to right that also moved Jamanis to third. Dianni cracked her second double of the inning bringing home Jamanis and Sommer, followed one batter later by Sooy, who also doubled to bring home Diianni with the eighth run of the frame.
The Knights added three runs in the fifth. Klose led off with a walk and was pinch-run for by Centeno. Tripodi moved Klose to second with an infield single, and Jamanis singled to right allowing Centeno to score, moving Tripodi to third while Jamanis moved to second on the throw. Sommer scored Tripodi with a run-scoring groundout, and
Zoey Ritter knocked in Jamanis with a single to finish Arcadia's scoring.
The Royals scored twice in the bottom of the fifth but the Knights secured the run-rule victory.
