Softball Gets Two Big Wins
 
CLERMONT, Fl. – The Arcadia University softball team continued its spring break trip to Florida with two big wins on Tuesday, defeating Springfield College 9-8 in nine innings, and taking down No. 14 The College of New Jersey 6-3.
 
The Knights improved to 8-3 with the wins.
 
In game one, Springfield opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first.
 
Arcadia took the lead in the bottom of the second when Megan Klose led off with a walk, moved to third on a single from Morgan Tripodi, with both runners scoring on a double from Effie Jamanis. After a groundout moved Jamanis to third, Zoey Ritter put down a safety squeeze bunt that brought E. Jamanis home to give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
 
The Pride cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the third.
 
E. Jamanis came through again in the bottom of the third when she singled, scoring Megan Sooy after Sooy reached on a base hit to center making the score 4-2.
 
The two-run lead didn't last as Springfield plated a run in the top of the fourth.
 
Ritter led off the fourth with a walk and moved to second on an error that placed Madi Costigan at first. After a pop-out, Sooy doubled to left scoring Ritter and putting Costigan at third. Serena Goodridge followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to center scoring Costigan to make the score 6-3.
 
The Pride tied the score in the top of the sixth with three runs.
 
Neither team was able to take the lead though the remainder of regulation, sending the game to extra innings.
 
The Pride took a one-run lead in the top of the eighth, but Arcadia was able to counter when Shannon Shea sacrificed E. Jamanis to third, with Nathalia Diianni knocking a base hit to center bring home E. Jamanis.
 
Springfield retook the lead in the top of the ninth with one run. Serena Goodridge led off the bottom of the ninth with a single scoring Aleigha Parnell to tie the score. After Angel Schaefer entered as a pinch-runner for Goodridge and moved to second, Shea singled to bring Schaefer home with the winning run.
 
Juliana Presto earned the win, allowing two runs (zero earned) on one hit across the final 3.2 innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.
 
Xanthe Jamanis led the offense in game one, going 3-for-4. Costigan went 2-for-5 with one run scored, Sooy finished 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI, Goodridge was 2-for-4 with two RBI's, E. Jamanis finished 2-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored, and Shea was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
 
In game two against No. 14 TCNJ, Sooy got Arcadia on the board when she launched a one-out two-run home run scoring Diianni, who singled to right.
 
TCNJ cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Diianni plated two runs in the top of the fifth when she launched a two-run double to the gap in left-center scoring X. Jamanis and Summer Centeno, who each singled and moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt from Costigan.
 
The Lions made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth with a run.
 
Costigan led off the top of the seventh with a base hit to left and came around to score one batter later when Diianni tripled to right-center. Diianni came into score when Sooy kocked an infield single.
 
TCNJ pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh but Presto slammed the door.
 
Presto earned her second win of the day with a complete-game effort, allowing three runs (two earned), scattering four hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
 
Diianni led the offense against TCNJ, going 3-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
 
The Knights return to action on Wedneday when they wrap up their trip to Florida with a game against SUNY New Paltz at 2:15 p.m., and Amherst College at 4:30 p.m.
