Men's Volleyball Beats King's, Falls to Eastern at King's Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's volleyball team split its matches at the King's Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon, beating the hosts, King's, 3-0, and falling to Eastern, 3-0.  

The Knights are now 9-14 overall and 5-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).  

In the match vs. King's, Danny Gonzalez led the Knights' attack with 10 kills. Anthony Devantier and Vaughn McConnell both had 15 assists apiece.  

Kevin Abraham had nine kills to pace the Knights in the match vs. Eastern. Owen Heft added seven kills. McConnell had 23 assists.  

ARCADIA 3, KING'S 0 
HOW IT HAPPENED 

Set 1: Arcadia 25, King's 13 

The Knights won the first seven points of the opening set. The continued to hold a bid lead throughout the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. 

Set 2: Arcadia 26, King's 24 

King's held an 18-14 lead, and held a three-point lead as late as 21-18. Arcadia went on a 5-2 run to tie the set at 23. The Monarchs won the next point to take a 24-23 lead, but the Knights took the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.  

Set 3: Arcadia 25, King's 23 

Like the previous set, the third frame was tightly contested. The set was tied at 19, and the teams then traded two-point runs. King's tied the set at 23, but Arcadia took the final two points to win the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Set 1: Eastern 25, Arcadia 18 

Arcadia led 11-10, but Eastern won four of the next five points to take a 14-12 lead. The Eagles never trailed for the rest of the set, and took the final four points of the frame to take a 1-0 lead in the match.  

Set 2: Eastern 25, Arcadia 16 

Eastern won the first four points of the set, and extended its lead to 5-1. The Knights cut Eastern's lead to 10-8, but the Eagles took six of seven points for a 16-9 lead. Arcadia won the next five points to cut its deficit to 16-14. Eastern closed the set on an 8-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 

Set 3: Eastern 25, Arcadia 20 

A back and forth set saw Arcadia tie the frame at 19. Eastern then won six of the final seven points to win the match in three sets.
