Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep with 6-4 Victory over Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Penn State Harrisburg with a 6-4 victory in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights improved to 8-1 with their eighth consecutive win.

Arcadia got on the board in the top of the fifth with five runs aided by two Lion errors. Ryan Smolen led off with a walk and moved to second when Connor Cheeseman singled to left. Matthew Sot moved both runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt, and Griffin Murphy followed with another bunt that was mishandled by the pitcher allowing him to reach and Smolen to score the game's first run. After Murphy stole second, Matt Donchez reached on an error by the shortstop allowing Cheeseman and Murphy to come home with the second and third runs. Donchez advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a bunt single from Alex Madera, who then stole second. Emilio Pallante then scored both runners with a sacrifice bunt.

The Knights added a sixth run in the top of the sixth when Justin Massielo was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Smolen, and scored on an error by the shortstop off the bat of Cheeseman.

Penn State closed the gap with a run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, and one in the eighth, but Arcadia's bullpen slammed the door to secure the victory.

Nick Fossile earned his first victory of the season, allowing one run over six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Pierce Rucci, Nadell Booker, and Owen Margolis finished the game, with Margolis pitching two scoreless innings to earn his second save.

Madera finished 3-for-4 with one run scored to lead the offense.

The Knights remain idle until they travel to Florida, returning to the field on March 12th for an 11:00 a.m. game against Heidelberg University.
