HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Arcadia University softball team swept its doubleheader with Haverford on Friday afternoon, taking the first game, 11-7 and winning the second game 12-2 in five innings.
The Knights improved to 15-4 on the season with the two wins.
Megan Sooy went 4-for-5 with five RBI's in game one. She had a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run shot in the third inning. Effie Jamanis went 3-for-5 with two RBI's in the victory.
Brenna Dolan got the start in the circle for the Knights in the opening game and improved her record to 6-2 on the season. Juliana Presto entered in relief and only gave up one hit in 2.1 innings, picking up her second save of the season.
Taylor Sommer went 2-for-3 with three RBI's in game two. She had an RBI walk in the first inning and then scored two runs with a single in the second inning. Morgan Tripodi went 1-for-2 in the victory as she hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Presto improved to 9-2 on the season as she pitched five innings, striking out nine.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Knights got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Megan Klose had an RBI single and Tripodi walked to bring home another run. Haverford got a run back in the bottom half of the inning through an RBI double.

Arcadia extended its lead to 6-1 in the second inning through Sooy's three-run homer and a Jamanis RBI double. Haverford hit a solo home run in their half of the inning to cut the Knights lead to 6-2.

Allison LaRochelle scored on a passed ball and Sooy hit a two-run home run to extend Arcadia's lead to 9-2. Haverford answered with a home run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Knights lead to 9-4.

Madi Costigan had an RBI single in the fourth inning and Jamanis recorded her second RBI double of the game in the fifth inning, giving the Knights an 11-4 lead.

Haverford scored three runs in the fifth inning, but the Knights held on to take the first game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Arcadia opened the game with four runs in the first inning. Serena Goodridge got hit by a pitch, bringing home a run. Sommer and Tripodi had back-to-back walks bringing home a run each, and Xanthe Jamanis brought home Sommer with a sacrifice fly.

The Knights then scored six runs in the second inning. Sooy singled to center field bringing home Zoey Ritter. Sommer then had a two RBI single, E. Jamanis had a sacrifice fly, and Tripodi closed out the scoring with a two-run home run, giving the Knights a 10-0 lead.

Tripodi had an RBI fielder's choice in the fourth inning and Sommer got on with a single and eventually scored on an error, extending Arcadia's lead to 12-0.

Haverford scored one run in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the Knights would hold on for the mercy rule victory in game two.

The Knights open up Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) on Sunday, April 3 as they host Misericordia for a doubleheader. The action gets underway from Blankely Field at 1 p.m.
