Softball Splits with Misericordia
GLENSIDE – The Arcadia University softball team stormed back for a game two 8-5 victory after falling in game one 9-1 in five innings in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action with Misericordia University on Sunday evening.
The Knights stand at 16-5 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Arcadia jumped in front in the bottom of the third of game two with six runs on six hits.
Madi Costigan led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt single from
Nathalia Diianni before
Megan Sooy doubled to right moving Diianni to third and scoring Costigan.
Serena Goodridge brought home Diianni with a single to right that moved Sooy to third before
Megan Klose reached on a run-scoring fielder's choice that neutralized Goodridge.
Effie Jamanis reached on an infield single and after
Xanthe Jamanis moved both runners up with a groundout,
Morgan Tripodi singled to right allowing Klose and E. Jamanis to cross the plate. Tripodi then stole second and
Zoey Ritter reached on an error that brought home Tripodi with the sixth run.
Misericordia cut the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the fifth.
Tripodi brought home E. Jamanis in the bottom of the fifth when she reached on an error by the right fielder to make the score 7-3.
After the Cougars plated two runs in the top of the sixth, the Knights finished the scoring with an insurance run in the bottom of the frame when Klose laced a double to left-center scoring
Grace Caldwell, who pinch-ran for Sooy after she reached on an error that allowed her to go to second.
Juliana Presto improved to 10-2 with the win, allowing five runs and six hits across seven innings with eight walks and 10 strikeouts.
E. Jamanis led the offense in game two, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Sooy was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI and Klose went 1-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored.
In the first game, Misericordia came out swinging building a 9-0 lead before Costigan got Arcadia on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a single bringing home Jamanis, who reached on a leadoff single.
Brenna Dolan fell to 6-3 with the defeat, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 12 hits in five innings.
Costigan finished the first game 2-for-3 with one RBI. Diianni, Sooy, and Jamanis all had one hit for the Knights.
Arcadia returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Wilkes University for a 4:30 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader.
