WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Arcadia University softball team swept its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader with Wilkes on Tuesday, taking the first game, 3-2 and winning the second game 3-0.
The Knights improved their record to 18-5 overall and 5-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Arcadia picked up a comeback victory in the first game as Wilkes held a 2-0 lead until the top of the sixth where the Knights tied the game and then plated another run in the seventh to seal the win.
Nathalia Diianni and Effie Jamanis each picked up an RBI in the first game. Diianni and Madi Costigan both recorded a two-hit game in the win.
Brenna Dolan got the start in the circle in game one. She pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits, and struck out seven. Juliana Presto entered in relief and picked up her 11th win of the season as she pitched two shutout innings, only giving up one hit and striking out five.
In the second game, Presto pitched a complete game shutout, improving her record to 12-2 on the year. She struck out 11 batters for her seventh game of at least 10 strikeouts this season.
Presto helped her own cause as she hit her first career home run in the third inning. Jamanis and Megan Klose also picked up RBI's in the win.
Megan Sooy got a hit in each game to improve her hitting streak to 15 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wilkes jumped out to a 2-0 lead through a two-run double in the bottom of the second.

The Knights got on the board in the sixth as Diianni came home through a Wilkes error. Jamanis then tied the game at two with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Sooy.

Diianni gave the Knights the lead in the seventh inning as she brought home Grace Caldwell with an RBI double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Presto homered in the third inning to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

The Knights scored two runs in the sixth inning as Klose doubled to center field scoring Morgan Marchesani. Jamanis then had an RBI groundout, bringing home Aleigha Parnell to give Arcadia a 3-0 lead.

The Knights travel to Lycoming on Saturday, April 9 for a MAC Freedom doubleheader. Action begins at 1 p.m.
