No. 8/14 Baseball Tops Delaware Valley
AMBLER, Pa.
- The No. 8/14 Arcadia University baseball team defeated Delaware Valley 20-10 to open its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) series on Friday afternoon.
The Knights won their fourth game in a row as they improved to 12-1 in league play and 26-4 overall.
Arcadia was first to put runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
Alex Madera reached on a throwing error by the second basemen, moving to second on the error.
Connor Cheeseman singled up the middle bringing the runner in to score, followed by
Trey Obarowski with a single through the right side advancing Cheeseman to second.
Ryan Smolen then hit a double to center field bringing both runners home putting the Knights in the lead 3-0.
Delaware Valley came back in the second inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Madera started the bottom of the second when he singled up the middle with one out, stole second, followed by both
Zachary Sekelick and
Justin Massielo getting hit by pitches to load the bases. Obarowski hit a single through the left side bringing Madera and Sekelick home to score, followed by Smolen reaching on a throwing error by Delaware Valley's third baseman scoring Massielo. The Knights ended the second inning in the lead 6-3.
Delaware Valley took its first lead in the top of the fourth with four runs, jumping ahead 7-6.
Massielo led off for the Knights in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to left center and then stole second, moving to third when Cheeseman flied out to center field. Obarowski grounded out to shortstop bringing Massielo home to tie the score at seven.
Delaware Valley scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning taking the lead back at 9-7.
The Knights fought back hard to tie the score again in the bottom of the fifth inning beginning with a
Joseph Kumar homerun to center field, followed by
Emilio Pallante singling up the middle and stealing second. Madera singled to center field moving Pallante to third who was able to come in on a fielding error by the center fielder.
Smolen doubled to right center in the sixth inning followed by Kumar with an RBI double to give Arcadia the lead for good.
The Knights exploded for nine runs in the seventh as 14 batters came to the plate, and a final run in the eighth on a
Vinny Versaci single to right-center scoring Pallante, who reached on a two-out walk and moved to second when
Brandon Colon walked.
Delaware Valley finished the scoring with a run in the top of the ninth.
Owen Margolis improved to 7-0 with the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings allowing one hit with one strikeout.
Obarowski and Kumar both finished 3-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored while Massielo was 3-for-5 with two RBI's and three runs score
The Knights return to action when they travel to Delaware Valley for a 12:00 p.m. MAC Freedom double header on Saturday.
