No. 6/9 Baseball Splits at FDU-Florham
MADISON, NJ - The No. 6/9 Arcadia University baseball team split its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader with FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 3-1 before dropping game two 3-2.
The Knights stand at 16-2 in conference play and 31-5 overall.
FDU-Florham opened the scoring game one with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Arcadia was quick to tie the game in the top of the fourth when
Hunter Curley led off with a triple to left and scored on a single by
Connor Cheeseman.
The Knights took the lead for good in the top of the seventh when
Matt Donchez led off with a homerun, followed by a bunt single by
Zachary Sekelick, who was pinch-hitting. Sekelick advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Emilio Pallante and after Sekelick advanced to third on a ground out by
Trey Obarowski,
Alex Madera singled allowing Sekelick to score.
Curley started on the mound for the Knights pitching the first 4.1 innings, allowing just one run with four hits and four strikeouts while walking one batter.
Owen Margolis finished the game with 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the win, moving his record to 8-0 with the victory, allowing one hit with six strikeouts with only one walk.
Madera finished the win 3-for-4 with one RBI to lead the offense.
Madera started the second game off with a triple in the top of the first inning, then scored on a groundout by
Justin Massielo.
FDU-Florham took the lead scoring one run in the first, second and third inning making the score 3-1.
Arcadia cut into the Devils lead in the top of the seventh when Madera walked with one out, moved to second on a groundout, and scored on a single by Massielo, but the Knights were unable to even up the score.
Nick Fossile started on the mound for the Knights, pitching the first two innings, allowing two runs and three hits with one strikeout and one walk to fall to 4-1 on the season.
Zach Steiger pitched three innings allowing one run with one hit scattering in four strikeouts with three walks while Margolis finished the game with one scoreless inning, striking out two.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Trenton Thunder Ballpark in Trenton, N.J. for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game against The College of New Jersey.
