Diianni's Single Helps Softball to Split at Stockton
GALLOWAY, N.J. –
Nathalia Diianni's run-scoring single in the top of the seventh of game two helped the Arcadia University softball team to a non-conference split at Stockton University on Thursday afternoon, taking game two 4-3 after falling 1-0 in game one.
The Knights stand at 28-7 after the two games.
Arcadia jumped out of the gate in game two when
Madi Costigan led off the top of the first with an infield single, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored on Diianni's single up the middle. After Diianni stole second,
Megan Sooy singled to left allowing Diianni to score on a throwing error that moved Sooy to second. After
Megan Klose reached on an error that pushed Sooy to third,
Effie Jamanis hit a sacrifice fly to right bringing home Sooy to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.
The Ospreys tied the score with one run in the bottom of the first, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
Costigan led off the top of the seventh with a single to center and advanced to second and third on separate wild pitches before Diianni's game-winning base hit.
Juliana Presto earned the victory in relief, allowing one run across 3.2 innings with three hits, five strikeouts, and one walk to extend her record for single season wins, moving to 19-3.
Costigan and Diianni each finished the second game 2-for-4 to lead the offense.
In game one, the only run was scored on a wild pitch by Presto in the bottom of the sixth.
The Knights had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh but were unable to push across the tying run.
Presto took her third loss of the season in game one, scattering three hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts across six innings.
Serena Goodridge and
Grace Caldwell each finished with one hit in the first contest.
Arcadia returns to action on Saturday when it will conclude the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) regular season with a doubleheader at Stevens starting at 1:00 p.m.
