Men's Volleyball Defeats Second Ranked Opponent of Week, Sweeps Tri-Match Over Elms and No. 8 SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight and defeated its second ranked opponent of the week as the Knights swept their tri-match on Saturday against Elms and No. 8 SUNY New Paltz.
 
The Knights swept Elms and defeated SUNY New Paltz in five sets.
 
Arcadia improved its record to 10-5 with the two wins.
 
In the Knights' win against Elms, Andrew Ahn led the charge with 10 kills. He nearly had a double-double, as the first year added nine digs. Josh Clendening stuffed the stat sheet as he tallied nine kills, four blocks and two aces in the victory.
 
In the victory over eighth-ranked SUNY New Paltz, Danny Gonzalez continued his strong play, recording 17 kills. Vaughn McConnell dished out 36 assists in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 
Set 1: Arcadia 25, Elms 22:

After a back and forth start to the match, the Knights took a three-point advantage at 12-9. Elms then went on a 7-1 run, taking a 16-13 lead. Arcadia closed the set on an 11-6 run to come back and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Set 2: Arcadia 25, Elms 13:
After Elms took the first three points of the set, Arcadia went on a 21-6 run to take control of the frame. The Knights closed out the set, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Elms 12:

The Knights dropped the first point of the set, but never trailed again in the set as they closed out the set and completed the sweep.

Set 1: SUNY New Paltz 25, Arcadia 10:
The Hawks held a 16-10 lead in the opening set and closed it on a 9-0 run to take the first frame in the match.
 
Set 2: Arcadia 25, SUNY New Paltz 21:
The Knights held an 11-9 lead, but SUNY New Paltz won four consecutive points, giving it a 13-11 advantage. Arcadia regained the lead, 18-17, with a 3-0 run. After the Hawks tied the set at 18, Arcadia closed the set on a 7-3 run to tie the set at one.
 
Set 3: SUNY New Paltz 25, Arcadia 13:
SUNY New Paltz took the first seven points of the set, but Arcadia took six of the next seven points to get within two, 8-6. The Hawks regained momentum and closed out the set to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
Set 4: Arcadia 25, SUNY New Paltz 22:
The fourth set saw five different ties, but the Knights never trailed in the frame. The teams traded points throughout the entirety of the set, but Arcadia took the final two points of the set to extend the match to the fifth and final set.
 
Set 5: Arcadia 15, SUNY New Paltz 11:
Arcadia jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the final frame. SUNY New Paltz got within three points on multiple occasions, but the Knights won the set to complete the comeback to defeat their second ranked opponent of the week.
