Men's Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team split its tri-match on Saturday, topping Lancaster Bible in five sets before falling to hosts, Elizabethtown in five in the night cap.
 
In the win over Lancaster Bible, the Knights avenged an early season loss to the Chargers. Danny Gonzalez led all players with 20 kills and Vaughn McConnell had a match-high 41 assists. Ryan Miller tallied a season-high eight blocks in the victory.
 
In the loss to Elizabethtown, Owen Heft, Andrew Ahn and Riley Kodidek all recorded double doubles. Heft had 17 kills and 13 digs, Ahn added 14 kills and 12 digs and Kodidek had a career-high 47 assists and 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 
Set 1: Lancaster Bible 25, Arcadia 17:
The Chargers jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the opening frame. The Knights went on a 6-3 lead to cut their deficit to 19-14, but Lancaster Bible closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Set 2: Lancaster Bible 25, Arcadia 23:
The teams battled to a 10-10 tie, but the Chargers took five of the next six points to take a 15-11 lead. The Knights charged back to take a 20-19 lead through a 5-1 run. With the set tied at 23, Lancaster Bible took the final two points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Lancaster Bible 22:
The Chargers held an early 7-3 lead. The Knights answered with a 6-2 run to tie the frame at nine. The teams exchanged runs as they headed to a 22-22 tie. Arcadia won the final three points of the set to extend the match.
 
Set 4: Arcadia 25, Lancaster Bible 18:
Arcadia held an early 11-5 lead and never trailed in the set after dropping the opening point to force the fifth set.
 
Set 5: Arcadia 15, Lancaster Bible 13:
With the Chargers leading 10-8, The Knights took the next four points, giving them a 12-10 lead. Lancaster Bible tied the set at 12, but Arcadia closed on a 3-1 run to complete the reverse sweep and win the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 
Set 1: Arcadia 25, Elizabethtown 22:
The entire set was closely contested as neither team could grow a lead larger than two until the Knights led 23-20. The Blue Jays took the next two points, but Arcadia took the last two to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Set 2: Elizabethtown 25, Arcadia 20:
With Arcadia leading 12-11, Elizabethtown took the next three points, giving it a 14-12 lead. The Blue Jays would never look back through the rest of the set as they tied the match at one.
 
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Elizabethtown 22:
The Knights never trailed in the set as they jumped out to a lead as big as eight. The Blue Jays fought off four set points, but the Knights closed out the frame to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
 
Set 4: Elizabethtown 25, Arcadia 21:
The teams played a back and forth frame until the Blue Jays took control of the set with a 6-1 run, taking a 23-20 lead. They extended it to an 8-2 run as they tied the match at two.
 
Set 5: Elizabethtown 15, Arcadia 12:
Arcadia won the opening three points of the decisive set and continued to lead, 9-6. The Blue Jays took the lead at 10-9 with a 4-0 run and closed the frame on a 5-2 run to win the match.
