Dear Named Interim Men's and Women's Golf Coach

GLENSIDE – The Arcadia University Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the hiring of Barry Dear as the new Interim Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach. Dear will begin his duties at Arcadia on September 14.

"I would like to thank the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity to join a first-class University like Arcadia," Dear said. "I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence here and hopefully improving it as well."

Dear comes to Arcadia following a three-year stint as a teaching professional at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club. In his time there, Dear taught individual and group lessons for both juniors and adults, managed the club's junior program, and coordinated and ran instruction and playing programs for adults and juniors.

"Barry is an accomplished teaching professional who will provide an immediate benefit to our student-athletes with regards to instruction and mental performance," Executive Director of Athletics Brian Granata said. "We look forward to the development of our golf programs under his leadership."

Prior to arriving at Blue Heron Pines, Dear was the Director of Golf at Valleybrook Golf Club for two years. He has also served as a teaching professional for several other courses prior to arriving at Valleybrook.

"I am very excited about becoming the head golf coach at Arcadia and assisting our scholar-athletes to learn the skills they need to be successful in life and in golf," Dear continued. "I hope my knowledge and experience will help them to achieve their goals."

Dear is a 1993 graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduating with a degree in Psychology. He was a four-year captain of their Division I golf team during his time with the Spartans.
