Baseball Overcomes Slow Start to Top Alvernia

AMBLER - Trailing 5-2 after two-and-a-half innings, the Arcadia University baseball team exploded for 14 runs over the next three innings en route to a 17-8 victory over Alvernia University in non-conference play at Skip Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon.

FOR THE RECORD
-Arcadia improved to 18-10 with the win.

-Alvernia fell to 17-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After Alvernia plated two runs in the top of the first, Tommy Ajjan cut the deficit in half with a double to right scoring Matt Donchez.

-The Golden Wolves retook a two-run lead in the top of the second, Nick Bon Tempo brought home Matthew Sot, cutting the score to 3-2.

-Alvernia again plated a single run in the top of the third.

-The Knights took their first lead in the bottom of the third. Ajjan started the scoring with a sacrifice fly scoring Kevin Wheeler, followed by a Gabe Diaz single plating Anthony Bruno and a bases-loaded walk from Jet Cajigas.

-Arcadia broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth.

-Joseph Kumar finished the scoring for the Knights in the seventh with a single to center that scored Cajigas.

-Vinny Versaci earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
