Young Powers Women's Volleyball Past Bryn Mawr in Five-Set Battle

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team got back to its winning ways, earning a nonconference victory over Bryn Mawr College in the penultimate match of the season. The Knights (13-14, 2-4 MAC Freedom) battled through five sets to claim the win, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-12.

SET ONE: Arcadia 25 – Bryn Mawr 23

• The Owls jumped out to an early lead before a kill from Callie McGuire stopped the run. The teams traded points, with Chana Rothschild picking up a kill and Kailyn Riggi adding an ace.
Sydney Steiner and Rothschild combined for a block before Devon Young recorded one of her match-high 23 kills.
• Arcadia extended its lead behind an Owls error and a solo block from Maddie Gavin Ruple.
• After taking advantage of several Bryn Mawr errors, the Knights went on a 5-0 run fueled by kills from Rothschild (2) and McGuire (3).
• Bryn Mawr responded with a 4-0 run, but the Knights closed out the set on a 5-2 stretch with kills from Young, Rothschild, and a final one from Young to secure the 25-23 win.

SET TWO: Arcadia 18 – Bryn Mawr 25

• Young picked up the first point of the set, but the Owls answered with a 6-0 run before Rothschild ended it with a kill.
• Young continued to pace the offense as her kill, paired with a block from Sarah Baker and Gavin Ruple, cut the lead to 10-7.
• Arcadia got kills from McGuire, Bryana Saenz, and three more from Young, while another from Gavin Ruple made it a 17-15 set.
• The Knights earned one final kill from Rothschild, but the Owls closed out the set to tie the match at one.

SET THREE: Arcadia 19 – Bryn Mawr 25

• The Owls quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and after the Knights got their first point, extended it to 12-1.
• With Bryn Mawr up 14-3, Arcadia cut into the lead behind kills from Nina Corazo and Rothschild, an ace from Riggi, and an Owls error to make it 14-7.
• The Knights capitalized on more Bryn Mawr miscues and kills from Young, Corazo, and Rothschild to make it 19-15, but the Owls held on for a 25-19 win and a 2-1 set advantage.

SET FOUR: Arcadia 25 – Bryn Mawr 17

• Young and Alliy Kulas opened the fourth with back-to-back kills, followed by another from Steiner.
• A kill from Saenz and an error by the Owls extended Arcadia's lead to 9-6.
• After Bryn Mawr briefly took the lead, a kill from Corazo and an ace from Riggi tied the set at 14-14.
• The Knights then went on a 5-0 run behind a kill and ace from Kulas and kills from Young and Rothschild to regain a 19-16 advantage.
• Arcadia closed the set on a 6-0 run powered by two more kills from Young to tie the match at two sets apiece.

SET FIVE: Arcadia 15 – Bryn Mawr 12

• Kills from Gavin Ruple and Kulas helped Arcadia erase an early deficit.
• With Bryn Mawr leading 8-3, the Knights answered with a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the set.
• The Owls tied it at 9-9 before another 5-0 Arcadia run, highlighted by two Young kills and an ace from Steiner, made it 14-9.
• Bryn Mawr cut the lead to 14-12, but Young sealed the victory with her 23rd kill of the day.
