Women's Hockey Shut Out Monarchs, Extend Winning Streak at Hatfield Ice Arena

COLMAR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's ice hockey team continued its winning streak Friday evening, blanking King's College, 4-0, at the Hatfield Ice Arena. The Knights improved to 11-4-2 overall and 9-3-1 in conference play behind a dominant performance in all three zones.

Arcadia struck twice in the opening period with goals from Kianna Saillant and Maeve Hourihan, then added a pair of second-period tallies from Ava Glab and Hourihan to seal the victory. First-year goaltender Ava Zoppo earned her second shutout of the season, stopping all 11 shots she faced.

The Knights controlled the contest from start to finish, outshooting the Monarchs, 67-11, and winning 54 of 74 faceoffs. Saillant led the way at the dot with 21 faceoff wins.

How It Happened

• From the opening faceoff, Arcadia applied sustained pressure in the offensive zone, forcing the Monarchs onto their heels. Despite seeing limited action overall, Zoppo was tested early, making three key saves in the first period, including a breakaway stop and two point-blank chances.
• The Knights broke through midway through the first period after Saillant won a faceoff and fed Phoebe Roberts, who returned the puck to Saillant on the left side. Saillant fired a shot over the goaltender's shoulder to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead. The goal marked her fourth of the season.
• Late in the period, a sequence of penalties created extended special-teams play. After King's negated its own power play with a penalty, the Knights earned a 4-on-3 advantage. When Arcadia's penalty expired, Maeve Hourihan redirected a shot from Abbi Komrofske past the goalie to make it 2-0. The power-play goal was Hourihan's fifth of the season.
• At the 7:16 mark of the second period, Ava Glab cleaned up a rebound in front of the net to push the lead to 3-0, with Roberts picking up her second assist of the game.
• With time winding down in the period, Grace Matthews sent a centering pass to Hourihan, who was left wide open in front and blasted a one-timer past the goaltender for her second goal of the night, sealing the 4-0 win.
