COLMAR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's ice hockey team completed a dramatic weekend sweep of King's College on Saturday afternoon at the Hatfield Ice Arena, rallying for a 2-1 overtime victory on Senior Day. The Knights (12-4-2, 10-3-1) erased a third-period deficit and capped the comeback with an overtime winner to send the home crowd home happy.
Despite outshooting the Monarchs 55-11 through two periods, Arcadia entered the third trailing 1-0. With Ava Zoppo pulled for an extra attacker late in regulation, Phoebe Roberts tied the game with just 7.5 seconds remaining to force overtime. Two minutes into the extra frame, Rheya Zemlak buried the game-winner to secure the sweep.
Arcadia controlled play throughout the contest, outshooting King's 64-12 and winning the faceoff battle, 49-22, with Kianna Saillant posting a game-high 19 wins at the dot. Both teams' penalty-kill units were perfect, as the Knights finished 0-for-2 on the power play and the Monarchs went 0-for-1. Zoppo earned the start in goal and finished with 11 saves, allowing just one goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Despite sustained offensive pressure from the Knights, King's struck first midway through the second period, scoring at the 10:55 mark to take a 1-0 lead.
• Later in the second, Maeve Hourihan appeared to tie the game after weaving through the zone and lifting a backhanded shot over the goaltender's shoulder, but the goal was waved off, sending Arcadia into the third still trailing.
• In the third period, the Knights fired 21 shots on goal, finally breaking through in the closing seconds. With Zoppo pulled for the extra attacker, Roberts finished a feed from Ava Glab with 7.5 seconds remaining to knot the score and force overtime.
• Arcadia controlled the overtime period, as Carys Jelley jump-started the attack with a shot on goal. After the initial save, Zemlak was there to clean up the loose puck and seal the victory.
