NEW TRIPOLI, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's golf team sits in sixth place among 13 teams after the opening round of the DeSales Fall Classic, hosted by DeSales University at Olde Homestead Golf Club on Friday afternoon. The Knights carded a team score of 316 (+28) through the first round.
Landen Benner led the Knights with a 77 (+5), tying for 15th place. Hayden Williamson followed with a 78 (+6) to tie for 22nd, while Nicky Antonelli carded a 79 (+7) to tie for 31st. Tony Antonelli and Caden Wistreich each shot an 82 (+10), tying for 39th place. Competing as an individual, Justin Madden finished with an 80 (+8).
Olde Homestead Golf Club is a par-72 course measuring 6,710 yards.
Benner led the Knights with a 77 (+5), shooting a 41 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back nine. He recorded four pars on the front, including three consecutive pars on holes six through eight. Benner caught fire on the back nine, recording three birdies and five pars. He birdied the par-4 10th hole before recording three straight pars, then finished the final four holes with two pars and two birdies.
Williamson finished with a 78 (+6), including a 40 (+4) on the front nine and a 38 (+2) on the back. He recorded four pars and a birdie on the front, with the birdie coming on the par-4 second hole. Williamson added six pars and his second birdie of the round on the par-3 13th hole before closing with four consecutive pars.
Nicky Antonelli carded a 79 (+7), shooting a 44 on the front nine before responding with a one-under-par 35 on the back. He opened the back nine with a birdie on the 10th hole, followed by three consecutive pars, and later eagled the par-5 16th hole.
Tony Antonelli and Wistreich each finished with an 82 (+10). Tony Antonelli shot a 46 on the front nine before carding an even-par 36 on the back. He opened the back nine with two consecutive pars, birdied the 12th hole, eagled the par-5 16th and birdied the 18th. Wistreich recorded a 37 (+1) on the front nine, including eight consecutive pars, before shooting a 45 on the back nine with three additional pars.
Madden competed as an individual and finished with an 80 (+8). He shot a 41 on the front nine with five pars before carding a 39 on the back. Madden birdied the 12th hole and closed his round with five consecutive pars.
Marymount leads the tournament with a three-under-par 285, holding a 15-stroke advantage over Scranton. Marymount's Kyle Curlee leads the individual standings with a four-under-par 68.
