Women's Lacrosse Cruise Past Gwynedd Mercy to Remain Unbeaten

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with an 18-5 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon at home. The Knights controlled the game from start to finish, outpacing the Griffins in every major statistical category.

Avery Ditze led the offensive effort with five goals. Molly Durkin, Jaylee Killgore, and Jordyn Chan each recorded hat tricks, while Elizabeth Zanca, Samantha Gambone, Mackenzie Clark, and Kyra Moyer also found the back of the net.

Taylor Funcheon earned the start in goal and played nearly three quarters, allowing five goals and making four saves. Angelina Vecchione entered late in the third quarter and played the final 18 minutes without facing a shot. Arcadia dominated in shots (39-9), shots on goal (28-7), and ground balls (40-17), while also holding a 14-10 advantage in draw controls.

Chan led all players with six draw controls. Mairead O'Connell, Olivia Forant, and Alejandra Roemer each collected four ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Ditze opened the scoring three minutes into the game off an assist from Clark.
• Just over a minute later, Durkin netted her first goal of the contest to give Arcadia a 2-0 lead.
• Chan became the third different Knight to score in the first quarter, finishing an assist from Killgore.
• Durkin added her second goal, again assisted by Killgore, to make it 4-0. Ditze followed with a free-position goal, and Durkin completed her hat trick in the first quarter off an assist from Meghan Graham to push the lead to 6-0.
• Killgore extended the advantage to 7-0 early in the second quarter before Gwynedd Mercy got on the board.
• On the ensuing draw, Chan responded with a goal off another assist from Killgore to make it 8-1.
• While down a player, Ditze scored a short-handed goal to stretch the lead to 9-1. Killgore added a free-position goal, and Ditze scored her second short-handed goal of the half as the Knights carried an 11-1 lead into halftime.
• Gwynedd Mercy outscored Arcadia 4-2 in the third quarter, but goals from Chan and Ditze gave the Knights a 13-5 lead heading into the final period.
• Vecchione took over in goal late in the third quarter and was not tested, as the defense did not allow a shot to reach her.
• After a late third-quarter yellow card on Gwynedd Mercy, Arcadia capitalized with two early fourth-quarter man-up goals. Clark scored first off an assist from Killgore, and Killgore followed with her third goal of the game to make it 15-5.
• Zanca added a goal with six minutes remaining, again assisted by Killgore. Gambone and Moyer each closed out the scoring with their first goals of the season, both on extra-man opportunities.
