Women's Lacrosse Stay Perfect with Dominant Win over Manhattanville

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten on the season after returning home for a non-conference matchup with Manhattanville. The Knights (6-0, 0-0 MAC Freedom) rolled to a 17-3 victory over the Valiants.

Ella Longacre led the offensive effort with four goals, while Claudia Grello and Jaylee Killgore each added two. Elizabeth Zanca, Avery Ditze, Mairead O'Connell, Molly Durkin, Mackenzie Clark, Alejandra Roemer, Jordyn Chan, Allyson Reidenbach, and Meghan Graham each recorded a goal for Arcadia.

Arcadia controlled the game statistically, outshooting Manhattanville 44-7 and holding a 27-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also led in ground balls (29-16), draw controls (16-5), and forced 25 turnovers while committing just 10. Arcadia was successful on 3-of-7 free-position attempts and cleared the ball on all 11 attempts, while holding Manhattanville to just 5-of-23 clears.

Mackenzie Clark, Jaylee Killgore, and Alejandra Roemer each collected four ground balls. Clark and Ella Longacre led the defense with three caused turnovers apiece. Jordyn Chan controlled the draw circle with 10 draw controls, while Mairead O'Connell added four.

Taylor Funcheon earned the start in goal, making one save while allowing one goal. Angelina Vecchione played the second half and allowed two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • From the opening whistle, the Knights took control. After Mairead O'Connell won the opening draw, Mackenzie Clark's first shot was saved. Manhattanville failed to clear the ball, and after Clark collected the ground ball, Jaylee Killgore's shot went wide. On the reset, Avery Ditze scored her 17th goal of the season off an assist from Ella Longacre just 90 seconds into the game.

  • After a turnover caused by Clark, Longacre scored her first goal of the game and fourth of the season off an assist from Clark to make it 2-0 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

  • Manhattanville cut the lead in half midway through the quarter, but the Knights quickly responded. Longacre forced a turnover, and Alejandra Roemer finished the possession with her third goal of the season to make it 3-1.

  • Jaylee Killgore extended the lead to 4-1 after another caused turnover by Longacre, scoring her 16th goal of the season off an assist from Meghan Graham.

  • Jordyn Chan controlled the ensuing draw, and after Ditze's shot went wide, Longacre scored her second of the game and fifth of the season off an assist from Graham to give Arcadia a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

  • The Knights opened the second quarter with two quick goals. First, Chan scored her ninth of the season off an assist from Clark, followed by Killgore's second goal of the game—her 17th of the season—off an assist from Longacre to make it 7-1.

  • After drawing a foul in the critical scoring area, Allyson Reidenbach converted a free-position goal—her first of the season—to push the lead to 8-1.

  • On a man-up opportunity, Clark scored her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Roemer.

  • As time expired in the first half, Longacre found a cutting Molly Durkin, who scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Knights a 10-1 lead at the break.

  • Longacre opened the second half with back-to-back goals to complete her four-goal performance and extend Arcadia's lead to 12-1.

  • Following a Manhattanville turnover, O'Connell collected the ground ball and raced downfield, firing an underhand shot past the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season to make it 13-1.

  • Meghan Graham added her eighth goal of the season on the ensuing draw, and Elizabeth Zanca followed with her third goal of the season on a free-position attempt.

  • Claudia Grello scored a man-up, free-position goal—her second of the season—just before the end of the third quarter to give Arcadia a 16-1 advantage.

  • Grello added her second goal of the game early in the fourth quarter to cap the Knights' scoring.

  • Manhattanville added two late goals, but Arcadia secured the 17-3 victory.
