PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with an 18-7 victory over St. Joseph's University–Long Island on Monday afternoon. The Knights improved to 7-0 on the season, marking the program's best start since the 2014 team also opened the year with seven consecutive wins.
Jaylee Killgore led the offensive effort with eight goals, while Avery Ditze and Mackenzie Clark each added three. Jordyn Chan scored twice, and Mairead O'Connell, and Ella Longacre each contributed a goal.
Arcadia held advantages in several statistical categories, including shots (41-26), shots on goal (30-13), caused turnovers (23-16), ground balls (20-19), and draw controls (15-13). The Knights converted 1-of-2 free-position attempts while holding the Golden Eagles scoreless on six opportunities.
Taylor Funcheon started in goal for Arcadia and made 10 saves while allowing seven goals. O'Connell and Funcheon each collected three ground balls to lead the Knights, while O'Connell, Allyson Reidenbach, Olivia Forant, and Longacre each recorded two caused turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Joseph's–Long Island won the opening draw, and Funcheon was quickly called into action with her first save of the game. After another Golden Eagles shot missed the target, Arcadia capitalized on its first possession when Jaylee Killgore scored her first goal of the game to give the Knights a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game.
• The Golden Eagles tied the contest at 1-1 with under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter. Arcadia quickly responded with two goals just over 30 seconds apart. Ella Longacre cleaned up a free-position attempt from Jaylee Killgore to make it 2-1, and after O'Connell won the draw control, Jordyn Chan assisted on Killgore's second of eight goals to extend the lead to 3-1.
• The Knights continued their momentum with two more goals just 20 seconds apart. O'Connell converted on a free-position attempt before Mackenzie Clark controlled the draw and scored to push the lead to 5-1.
• St. Joseph's–Long Island added a goal late in the quarter, but Arcadia closed the period with two more tallies. Clark scored off an assist from Killgore, and Killgore added another goal to give the Knights a 7-2 lead heading into the second quarter.
• Ninety seconds into the second quarter, Avery Ditze scored on a man-up opportunity to make it 8-2. The Golden Eagles answered with a goal of their own, but Killgore responded to extend the lead to 9-3.
• St. Joseph's–Long Island capitalized on a man-up opportunity to cut the deficit to 9-4, but Arcadia closed the half with another goal from Killgore off an assist from Clark to take a 10-4 lead into the break.
• The Golden Eagles opened the second half with two goals to narrow the margin, but Ditze and Clark scored back-to-back goals just 30 seconds apart to extend the Knights' lead to 12-6.
• Arcadia continued to score in quick succession, as Killgore netted a man-up goal before Jordyn Chan followed with a goal just 15 seconds later to make it 14-6.
• Ditze opened the fourth quarter scoring with another man-up goal off an assist from Chan, and Killgore added her seventh goal of the game to extend the lead to 16-6.
• St. Joseph's–Long Island scored once more, but Killgore and Chan capped off the scoring for Arcadia to secure the 18-7 victory.
