Balanced Offense Lifts Men's Lacrosse Past Widener; Johnson Reaches 100 Career Points

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team returned home and got back in the win column with a 12-8 nonconference victory over Widener. The Knights improve to 6-2 on the season.

Arcadia featured a balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring two goals each. Alex Greenberg, Gavin Lenart, Dylan Garber, AJ Laibach, and Tristan Johnson all recorded multi-goal performances, while Anthony Mangini and Landen Cantwell each added a goal. With his second goal of the game, Johnson reached 100 career points, tying him for eighth in program history.

The Knights held advantages in several key statistical categories, including shots (48-42), shots on goal (27-19), ground balls (41-28), and faceoffs (13-9). Arcadia was nearly perfect on clears, going 27-for-28, while holding Widener to 21-for-26. Both teams finished 1-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.

Nate Hudgins started in goal and played the first half, making nine saves while allowing four goals. Joseph Tesler took over in the second half, recording two saves and allowing four goals to help secure the win.

Colin Brockman dominated at the faceoff X, going 12-for-16, while Darian Good added a win. Brockman also led all players with 11 ground balls. Defensively, nine different Knights recorded a caused turnover.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The opening quarter featured strong defensive play from both sides. After Brockman won the opening faceoff and rang a shot off the post, Widener answered with a scoring chance of its own, also hitting the post.
• With under five minutes remaining in the first, the Knights broke through. Following a Hudgins save and successful clear, Anthony Mangini found Landen Cantwell for the game's first goal.
• Ninety seconds later, Arcadia extended its lead when Dylan Garber capitalized after a Widener miss to make it 2-0.
• Widener answered on the ensuing possession, but Arcadia responded quickly. After Alden Cathey scooped up a ground ball, Gavin Lenart scored off an assist from Hudgins to make it 3-1.
• With 1:30 remaining in the quarter, Tristan Johnson scored off an assist from William Burke after a caused turnover by Adrien Widdows, giving the Knights a 4-1 lead heading into the second.
• Early in the second quarter, Hudgins made another key save, leading to a transition opportunity. After Burke's initial shot went wide, Alex Greenberg converted off an assist from Mangini to push the lead to 5-1.
• Following a failed Widener clear, AJ Laibach scored to extend the advantage to 6-1 with seven minutes remaining in the half.
• Widener responded with three consecutive goals, but Arcadia halted the run before halftime. Brockman won the faceoff, Jack Keenan secured the ground ball, and Greenberg found Garber for a late goal, giving the Knights a 7-4 lead at the break.
• Widener opened the second half scoring five minutes into the third, converting on a rebound opportunity to cut the deficit to 7-5.
• Arcadia answered on a man-up opportunity, as Greenberg found the back of the net to make it 8-5.
• Johnson added his second goal of the game with just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter, extending the lead to 9-5.
• In the fourth quarter, the Knights struck quickly on back-to-back possessions. Laibach scored off an assist from Greenberg, and Mangini followed with a goal just 30 seconds later to make it 11-5.
• Widener attempted a late comeback with three straight goals, but Arcadia responded while a man down. Lenart sealed the victory with a goal off an assist from Garber, securing the 12-8 win.
