Comeback Knights: Men's Lacrosse Rallies Past Chatham with Dominant Second Half, 11-8

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team erased a halftime deficit and dominated the second half, outscoring Chatham University 6-1 to secure an 11-8 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Knights improve to 5-1 on the season.

Tristan Johnson and Reilly Robichaud each recorded hat tricks to lead the Arcadia offense, with Robichaud credited with the game-winning goal. Mason Barndt added two goals, while Alex Greenberg, Gavin Lenart, and Sean Perkinson each found the back of the net once.

Arcadia controlled much of the statistical battle, outshooting the Cougars 49-36, including a 29-16 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also held advantages in ground balls (48-36), faceoffs (16-7), and clearing percentage, finishing 26-for-31 compared to Chatham's 32-for-40. Colin Brockman led all players at the faceoff X, winning 14 of 18 attempts.

In goal, Nate Hudgins made 11 saves while allowing eight goals to earn the win. Arcadia capitalized on two of its four extra-man opportunities and held Chatham scoreless on all three of its man-up chances.

Brockman and Hudgins led the Knights with eight ground balls apiece, while Lenart and Ryan Clark each recorded three caused turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Knights won the opening faceoff, and shots from Dylan Garber and Reilly Robichaud were both turned away. After a failed Chatham clear caused by a turnover from Ryan Clark, Tristan Johnson scored his first goal of the game and 15th of the season to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead.

• Three minutes later, the Cougars scored back-to-back goals to take their first lead of the game at 2-1. The advantage was short-lived, as a faceoff violation on Chatham gave Arcadia possession and Robichaud buried his 10th goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2.

• Off the ensuing faceoff, Chatham regained the lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter. After the Cougars won the next draw, Gavin Lenart forced a turnover, scooped up the ground ball, and found Johnson for his second goal of the game to even the score at 3-3.

Mason Barndt scored his fifth goal of the season on a reset after Sean Perkinson's shot went wide, giving the Knights a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.

• With six minutes remaining in the first half, Barndt scored again off an assist from Johnson to extend Arcadia's lead to two. Chatham responded with four unanswered goals, however, taking a 7-5 advantage into halftime.

• The second half belonged to the Knights. After Arcadia drew a penalty early in the third quarter, Sean Perkinson converted on the extra-man opportunity off an assist from Anthony Mangini, cutting the deficit to one.

• Chatham answered moments later when a blocked shot rebounded back to a Cougar attacker for a goal, restoring the two-goal lead at 8-6. It would be the only goal Chatham scored in the second half.

• With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Robichaud finished a man-up opportunity off a feed from Johnson for his second goal of the game.

• With under two minutes remaining in the quarter, Johnson completed his hat trick on an assist from Mangini. Just 50 seconds later, Robichaud completed his hat trick to give the Knights a 9-8 lead entering the fourth quarter.

• In the final frame, Gavin Lenart scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Dylan Garber before Alex Greenberg sealed the victory with his fourth goal of the year on a feed from AJ Laibach.
