GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 1-0 nonconference victory over Widener at home Tuesday evening. The Knights (1-0-0) struck in the 16th minute when Alex Chyzowych found the back of the net off an assist from Scott Jordan, and that was all Arcadia needed to secure the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights had the first scoring opportunity of the game in the opening minute, earning a corner kick, but Arcadia was unable to capitalize.
- Arcadia struck first in the 16th minute when Jordan slotted a ball through the backline to Chyzowych, who took a touch to his right before sending a low shot past the keeper to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
- Randy Heidorn made his first save of the game in the 29th minute, keeping the Pride off the scoreboard.
- Neither team recorded another shot before halftime, and the Knights carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Early in the second half, Widener had its best scoring opportunity of the game, but Heidorn was issued a red card, forcing Sam Kessinger to come off the bench and enter the game.
- Playing a man down for the final 41 minutes, the sophomore goalkeeper turned away all three shots he faced to preserve the shutout and the Arcadia victory.
- Jordan and Brian Sharkey each had quality opportunities late in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
