McCormick's perfect day highlights Knights double-dual at King's

WILKES-BARRE, PA:  (Jan. 15, 2011)  [Results]  -  After a near month layoff from competition, Arcadia Men's and Women's Swimming returned to action on Saturday at King's College in a double dual with the hosts and Messiah College in Middle Atlantic Conference action.  Arcadia's Men (2-9) picked up just their second win of the season and second over a MAC opponent, with a 77-33 defeat of King's, but lost to Messiah 80.5-40.5, while the women's team (4-8) lost to both King's and Messiah by identical 88-33 scores. 

The Knights were able to out-perform King's and Messiah in four individual events, taking four gold medals, three coming from Oliver McCormick '13.  McCormick, who was a perfect 3 for 3 in his individual events on Saturday, won the 1000 Free (11:36.66), the 100 Free (54.16) and the 500 Free (5:28.13).  Adding a fourth first place finish for the Knights was Jessica Parker '12, victorious in the 50 Freestyle (26.87), also taking third in both the the 200 Free (2:12.62) and 500 Free (6:00.82).

Catey Nunnari '13 placed second in the 1000 Free (12.31.82), Kayla Kroll '11 second in the 200 Fly (2:45.55) and Tess Geib '12 third in the 100 Fly (1:11.84), rounding out the top performers for the women's squad.  Stephanie Bartolotta '11, Lindsay Mills '13, Geib and Parker would later team to take third in the women's 400 Freestyle Relay (1:02.08).

The men's relay teams would take a pair of silver medals, first in the opening 200 Medley Relay with Sean Robinson '14, Dillon Grady '13, Joe Blake '13 and Patrick Ward '13 (1:58.53) and in the closing 400 Freestyle Relay with Aaron Knock '12, McCormick, Ward and Jason Sharpe '11 (3:38.97), who fell just one second short of a first place victory. Other top performers for the men's team included a second place time for Sharpe in the 200 Free (1:59.31), who also placed third in the 200 Fly (2:32.38).  Robinson also finished with second place times in both the 100 Backstroke (1:06.77) and 200 Backstroke (2:18.82), adding a bronze in the 200 IM (2:27.52).  The Knights added four more bronze medals to their total on the day with Dillon Grady in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.99), Ward in the 100 Backstroke (1:07.68) and Knock in the 50 Free (24.47) and 100 Fly (1:02.08).

Arcadia returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Williamsport for a MAC dual with Lycoming College at 1 PM.  The Knights close out their home schedule on Saturday, Jan. 29 against DeSales before the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships begin on Feb. 11-13.
