Moravian battles past Knights

GLENSIDE, PA (Jan. 5, 2011) – Despite a team leading 20 point from Jason Thompson '12 (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) along with a double-double by Aaron Benusis '14 (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), Arcadia University Men's Basketball (4-7 Overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) was outmatched by the Greyhounds of Moravian College (6-5) by a score of 69-53 in tonight's non-league match up.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, with Moravian jumping to the largest lead of the half for both teams, with four seconds to go on a trey from Chris Cullen.  That bucket was a part of an 11-0 run by the Greyhounds that flowed over into tonight's second half.  The halftime result was a 32-26 score in Moravian's favor.
Moravian did not allow the Knights the chance to come back in the second half leading from start to finish, culminating with a game high 16 point lead with 1:23 to go, a margin that was depicted in the final score as well.  The Knights battled and were able to cut the lead to 3 with 16:32 to go, but Moravian responded with a layup and a three pointer and controlled the game from that point on. The Knights did out block the Greyhounds 4-1 in the half.

Both teams were equally paired on the statistical sheet with Arcadia shooting 40% (12-30) from the field compared to Moravian's 39.1% (9-23) shooting.  The Knights were outrebounded by the Greyhounds by four (17-13).  There were also 11 lead changes in the opening half.

Despite the negative outcome the Knights were paced by several key players.  As mentioned Jason Thompson lead the team with his season best 20 points, including 3-4 from beyond the arc while tying with three others with three assists.  Aaron Benusis had a career performance pulling down a career high 13 rebounds, scored 11 points along with four blocks.  Colin McCarthy '12 (Langhorne, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) came off the bench to match his season average with 10 points along with three assists.  The Greyhounds were lead by Blake English's 14 points and 10 rebounds, Kenny Gula's 13 points, and D.J. Strayhorn's 10 assists.

The Knights will be home again for the second of their four game home-stand as they battle the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth Game at 3PM this Saturday.  They will be preceded by the Arcadia University Women's Basketball Team at 1PM.
