Swimmers sweep FDU in home opener

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Arcadia University Swimming hosted Middle Atlantic Conference rival FDU-Florham Thursday night in the team's home opener.  The men's and women's squad combined to win 21 of the 22 event meet and swept the visiting Devils.  Arcadia's women's team notched their first win of the season (1-2 overall) winning 147-56 while the men's team improves to 2-1 overall, winning 134-52.

The men's team placed first in all 11 events.  Peter Hamilton '13 (Blackwood, NJ/Triton), DJ Duguay '15 (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional), Andrew Frentress '15 (Shelton, CT/Shelton) and Darren Robinowitz '15 (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) kicked the evening off with a 20 second win in the 200 Medley Relay.  

Oliver McCormick '13 (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) aced three individual events, beginning with the 200 Free (1:57.46), 100 Free (53.48) and the 100 Backstroke (1:09.84).  Ryan Mahoney '13 (Pheonixville, PA/Great Valley) won two individual events, 1000 Freestyle (11:54.94) and the 100 Backstroke (1:04.80).  Alex Ganguzza '15 (Hansbrouck Heights, NJ/Hansbrouck Hts.) sprinted to two first place times in the 50 Free (24.60) and the 100 Butterfly (56.77) before dominating the 500 Freestyle where he won by over one minute (5:40.24).   Dillon Grady '13 (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) earned the final first place win in the 200 IM (2:21.09) before the Knights closed the meet defeating FDU in the 200 Freestyle Relay. 

On the women's side, the Knights also opened up the night with a first-second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, led by gold medal winning team of Liz Begley '15 (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), Jenna Neil '15 (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East), Laura Miller '15 (York, PA/Dallastown) and Arielle Fry '13 (Telford, PA/Souderton). 

Whitney Boeckel '15 (York, PA/Spring Grove) won first in the 1000 Freestyle, defeating FDU's second place swimmer by over a minute (11:37.60).  Boeckel was also victorious in the 100 Buttefly (1:07.02).  Tara Nuzzo '14 (Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) won gold in the 20 Freestyle (2:09.72) as well as the 100 Freestyle (58.30).  Other individual winners for the Knights included:  Miller in the 50 Free (26.45), Fry in the 500 Freestyle (5:57.31), Catey Nunnari '13 (Ambler, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy) in the 200 IM (2:33.36) and Neil in the 100 Backstroke (1:18.94).  The Knights capped off their season's first victory by pulling out their final win in the 200 Freestyle Relay, led by Nuzzo, Boeckel, Tess Geib '12 (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Miller (1:48.27). 

Arcadia looks to keep their early season momentum going when they host Albright College this Saturday, Nov. 12.  The Middle Atlantic Conference meet will begin at 1 p.m.
