GLENSIDE, Pa., Saturday, April 9, 2011-- Arcadia Women's Lacrosse won their third game in the last four chances, defeating visiting King's College today 10-9 in an intense Middle Atlantic Conference battle.
Arcadia (5-6/3-5 MAC) jumped out to 3-0 lead after five minutes with two goals from junior
Steph Holguin and another from senior
Jen Ng, all unassisted. The early goal advantage would turn out to be a much need safety net as King's quickly made it a 3-2 game with 17 minutes remaining in the half. Senior
Kreena Patel converted a nifty pass from Holguin just seconds later and the Knights regained their two-goal lead 4-2. Each team would add one final score to close the half with Arcadia in front by two, 5-3.
The Lady Monarch's (3-6/2-5 MAC) defense was suffocating at times, forcing the Arcadia squad into 20 turnovers, as they stayed glued to the Knight's heels for the entire game, finally tying the game at 9-9 with a goal by Amanda Harney with under seven minutes remaining. But, the Knights remained patient and were rewarded with the go-ahead golden goal on a Jen Ng
pass to sophomore
Meghan Fallon with 1:32 remaining. It was Fallon's team co-leading 34th goal of the year as the sophomore finished the game with three goals. Also with 34 goals this season is Holguin, who led all scorers with five points, (4G, 1A). Senior
Kaitlyn Gamber led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and five ground balls, both team highs. Sophomore
Deanna Thompson made four stops with six goals allowed through the first 42 minutes before head coach
Erin Livingston gave the Lady Monarchs a different look, going to junior
Amalie Kreitman, who allowed three in the final 17:33 but her one save proved to be the difference maker in the one-goal Knights win.
Today's win was the Knights third straight over King's dating back to the 2009 season.
The Knights' April 11 match against Immaculata has been cancelled, due to a scheduling conflict with the Mighty Macs. The team resumes play at MAC rival Wilkes on April 13.
