Knights defeated by Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa.:  Arcadia University Swimming made their first trip to Marywood University's new Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon and were outlasted by the host Pacers, who swept Arcadia's men's and women's squads in non-conference action.  Arcadia's men fell by a 160-60 final while the women's team lost 164.5-86.5.

The Knights swim against non-conference Ursinus College this coming Friday evening, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Lenox Pool, the team's regular season finale before the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships Feb. 11 -12.

Through Saturday's men's events, bragging rights sided with the Pacers, who only allowed Arcadia one first-place win and six runner-up finishes.  Junior Oliver McCormick's time in the 1000 Free (11:10.54) gave Arcadia a boost in the early going but Marywood would sweep first through third in three events and place first-second in two others as the meet progressed.  McCormick would be outlasted in the 500 Free (5:24.30) where he finished second.  First year Alex Ganguzza cleared two second-place times in the 100 Back (59.81) and 100 Fly (56.57) while first year David Battistelli finished as runner-up in the 50 Fly (27.06).  Arcadia took second in the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.  The Pacers finish the regular season with an 8-5 mark while Arcadia fell to 3-8-1.

The Marywood women closes their regular season with an overall mark of 7-8.  Arcadia slipped to 5-8 with the loss.  While first year Whitney Boeckel claimed the lone top-time for the Knights, a win in the 100 Backstroke (1:03.94), Arcadia's women swam to nine individual runner-up finishes in addition to second-place times in the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.  Boeckel paired her victory in the 100 Backstroke with a second-place time in the 500 Free (5:34.70).  First year Alyssa Peterson garnered three silver medals in the 50 Free (27.98), 100 Fly (1:08.98) and 200 IM (2:34.72).  First year Jenna Neil took second in the 100 Breast (1:22.60) and 50 Breast (37.25).  Senior Tess Geib placed second in the 200 Free (2:14.15) as well as the 100 Free (1:01.22) with junior Lindsay Mills adding an additional silver in the 50 Fly (31.56).
