Women's Basketball Suffers First Setback of the Season

Box Score Glenside, PA (November 28, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (4-1, 0-1 MCOM) suffered their first defeat of the season tonight, 77-64 to the Albright College Lions (3-1, 1-0 MCOM). Arcadia had a 44-40 lead midway through the second half, but a 16-4 run followed by a 13-3 run put the Knights in a 16-point hole that they could not get out of. Victoria Roukas led the Knights, recording a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Albright won the tip and jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but four straight by Arcadia gave them their first lead at 8-7 with 16:18 to play in first half. The game was then tied at 13 and 15 at the 12:35 mark, but the Knights then went on an 11-4 run that gave them a 26-19 lead with 6:26 to play in the half.

The Lions then responded by scoring the next seven points to tie the game at 26 with 3:16 to play. Arcadia then went up 31-28, but Albright scored the final four points of the half to take a 32-31 lead into the break.

Sara DeCinque scored eight points to lead Arcadia. Shawn Barczynski led Albright with eight points. Arcadia shot 38.7%, while Albright shot 37.5%. The Lions had a slight edge on the boards 23-19. Albright turned the ball over 14 times and the Knights had 13 miscues.

The teams traded baskets to start the half and Arcadia had a 36-34 lead at the 18:05 mark. Albright scored the next four points to take the lead back at 38-36, but a fast break lay-up by Dominque Hassinger tied the game at 38 at the 14:20 mark. Albright led 40-38, but a quick 6-0 run gave the Knights at 44-40 lead with 11:20 to play.

Albright struck back, using a 16-4 run to take their largest lead at 56-48 with 7:16 to play. The Knights got back to within six at 56-50, but the Lions then went on a quick 9-2 run to take a 65-52 lead at the 4:38 mark. Albright continued to extend their advantage and led by as many as 19 points in the final four minutes.

Roukas was 4-13 from the field and 8-11 from the line with a steal and two blocks. Sam Caligiuri added 12 points. Morgan Wensley and Dominique Hassinger each scored 11 points, while Sara DeCinque added 10 points. Jessica Venturelli led all scorers with 17 points, while Meghan Boyle added 15 points.

Albright ended the game shooting 47% and held Arcadia to 33%. The Lions won the board battle 44-41, but committed 20 turnovers while causing 18.

The Knights return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to face Stevenson.
